Guess Who’s Back?! Not Slim Shaddy…

So this blog first started as a means to chart my progress is fashion and modeling… However, after taking a lengthy hiatus, my priorities have changed. I started working for All Saints over this past summer- more will come from that- and being so busy with school and work, modeling has gone to the back burner. I decided that I will pursue hardcore when I am able to move to NYC full time. Also, I’m in Sydney, Australia.

Slash— Read my first published article!

Also check out some awesome photography and some of my newest pictures @ Meyer Inspired!

Sydney is amazing. This city is beautiful and way bigger and metropolitan than I thought. Not having to go through a Boston this winter this year is a definite positive in being here as well. The flight here was miserable. I had to fly Tampa NYCLASydney. I was so tired after but being here is surreal. Today was the first moment that I realized where I was. After a day of a scavenger hunt through the city, seeing a ton of amazing sights. Being at Bondi Beach was too great. Pictures to come soon!
I am going to keep this blog as a means to keep people posted on my experiences here in Sydney AND… Sydney fashion is pretty sick. I see so much awesome-ness that I need to share with my fellow Americans and others!
I wrote that first part when I first got to Sydney—- camera broke so that has hindered my ability to post some of Sydney street looks. Yet, I find myself still coming back here and trying to figure what the hell I am going to write about. This past month has been filled with drag kings and queens, launch of Mardi Gras- the Gay and Lesbian parade, a wonderful trip to Melbourne, lots of beach action, and TONS of food!
My favorite part of Melbourne, besides the sick hotel- Mantra at the Bay, was the bar culture. It was very similar to the underground bar scene in New York, the one that comes to mind is Cabin Below in New York. There a lot of lane ways in Melbourne that might seem to lead to nowhere, but not until you go down one that you discover little cafes and bars that only lone stragglers or the in-the-know Melbs would know about.
One day at Coogee beach, exploring the rocky shore with Laura (the Wife) and Car, we found ourselves against the crashing waves at the edge of a low rock cliff. I thought it would be a good idea to go to the very edge and sit down, but of course, as soon as I sit, a huge wave knocks me over and I get thrown across the barnacle covered rocks that hurt just to walk on. I got cut all over my hands and legs and a huge cut on my knee. IT WAS AWESOME.
I have gone to a couple of music events in Sydney- Big Day Out and Kaskade. Pictures to follow.

Also, if you have never heard of Trop Fest it is AWESOME! It is the largest short film festival in the world! Google it 🙂

This past weekend was Mardi Gras as well! It is the Gay Lesbian Parade in Sydney and I got to be in it! It was so much fun! Best thing I have done in Australia for sure 🙂

Also- I know this is a tad late but better late than never! right? –> NYC Fashion Week- My favorites

Burberry Prorsum- This collection was beautiful. I feel like it strayed a little from its typical look, but in a VERY good way. I loved the blending of colors that fused classing fall colors with subtle hints into the winter scene. The collection definitely had a story to tell and there will most surely be a happy-ending. Take a look at some of the photos below and let me know what you think!

Douglas Hannant- I just love collections that are inspired by the flapper. He takes this iconic image of a woman, makes her sexier, more chic, and definitely fashion forward.

Marc by Marc Jacobs- The first thing I thought of when I saw this collection was The Lovely Bones. I love it! I love the color palate of this line the most. I can’t wait to see his influence on the streets come fall!

RAD by Rad Hourani- If I had to pick a collection to wear until the next NYC Fashion Week (or for the rest of my life), it would be this one. This take on fall is definitely a lot darker, which I love. There are so many angles and it is so dramatic I could die! I’m obsessed. Also, I want to note the androgynous models, another theme seen on the runway this season. I don’t know if I’m more obsessed with the models or the clothes!

The Row- speechless.

Robert Geller- If I had to choose a collection for the entirety of the male population to where this fall. It would be this. Omfg.

Christian Siriano- Always amazing. Love the classic pieces. Love the edginess. Love him.

Wayne- Looks like Marilyn Manson and Kelly Cutrone made love on an orange farm. Good or bad? Check below!

Wes Gordon- As a collection- eh. There were some pieces I loved and some I threw up on.

Richard Chai- Loved. One thing was missing though and not quite sure what. Maybe a little more color?
Some collections to look at: Matthew Williamson, Simon Spurr, Jason Wu, Duckie Brown.
Were there any collections you loved or hated! Comment and let me know!
Came by this on accident, and so glad it happened. From London Fashion week

David Koma- Love- edgy, but hot. Very funky and definitely not your typical fall collection.

Feelin’ It

Hey! Thanks for checking out my blog! I hope that you decided to support and follow my journey onto becoming successful in modeling. My blog focuses on the male modeling industry, fashion and my life in getting made. I hope that my blog will serve as a guide to getting started in the industry, diet and exercise and behind the scenes of the industry itself. Feel free to leave comments and feedback and help spread the word to your friends! Thanks again and enjoy!

Thanks to everyone who posted comments on the last entry! To answer some questions you guys asked:

Teddy- I did it at my gym in Florida they have this device that does it. You can buy online, or at a GNC a fat measurer. There are two kinds: one that pinches your fat (more accurate *Thanks RaeAnne* but lowers your self esteem- I don’t like it) or the one that is electronic (much better because it doesnt make you want to kill yourself as much by pinching you). Also, Fitrec will do it for 20 bucks.

Lindsey- YES! The winner of Launch My Line on Bravo will have their line launched on Ruelala (which is the website I shoot for)!

Amanda- I am going to hopefully be working with an agency in New York this summer! Crossing my fingers!

Brian, Erica, Jenn, RaeAnne and Kara- You guys didn’t really ask anything, but thanks for commenting!

Fashion and Entertainment

I decided to incorporate a weekly entertainment update in my blog. I also decided to go to the best person for the job!

**Jordan Diaz is a Broadcast Journalism major at Boston University with a passion for everything Hollywood! Diaz is from Tampa, Florida and loves watching television, working out, the beach, sports and his family. His addiction to television and gossip tabloids started when he was in middle school and is proud to say he’s now a full-blown addict. Jordan’s life-long dream is to become an on-camera personality for E!, covering everything from red carpets to movie premieres to chatting with his future wife Megan Fox. After Diaz’s freshman year, he interned for the CW in his hometown as a production and promotions assistant. Now, he’s interning for Boston’s top two radio stations: KISS 108 and JAMN 94.5. He will be making a move to New York City this coming summer for a potential internship with MTV and has faith in his self to succeed at whatever he does! Jordan is optimistic, never frowning and always making moves, so hope you tune in weekly to catch the latest ‘Entertainment Exclusive with Jordan Diaz!’

Couture shows are done. Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel showed a look into the future with his line, full of color, and very shiny. My point though for bringing this up, Baptiste escorted the final look, the wedding dress, down the runway. Luck dude… he is Lagerfeld’s “partner,” I am completely willing to be one of the greatest name’s of fashion muse… So Baptiste, WHENEVER you are over it, I will take over for you… NBD (no big deal).

Man fur… not the gross kind, but the cool, yet bad for animal rights, kind of fur is going to be very “in” this fall. Yes, I know it is very far in advance but the fall shows are underway, and this I knowledge that can save money and make you look cooler. Below, I put 4 looks from Dolce and Gabbana’s Milan Fall 2010 show. Do you like? I do!

The Happenings

I don’t know if I mentioned it but I am trying to do detox programs more often. It is good to cleanse your body and help normal body functions. I started a new one on Monday. It is the GNC 7 day program. Hopefully, if I stick to the eating regiment, you will see a lot of just fruit and veggies in my diet. However, it is hard to get enough calories in day just eating those things, so I have to eat a lot of them and through some more substantial foods in the mix.

I am going to Manhattan today and tomorrow I am going to see what I hope will be my apartment for the summer! Still crossing my fingers! Also, tonight is Pedro’s birthday party and I am excited because I have the best costume. Ooo I also found a cheap hotel room at Hotel Pennsylvania, so I am staying there this trip! I can’t wait to have a room and nice bed to myself for a few days!

I am trying to get more photos to update my book. I was on Model Mayhem , a website for models, photographers, make-up artists, etc, and came across a ton of castings. I sent my pictures to a designer, Michael Anthony, pictures are above, looking to shoot “lookbook”. A lookbook consists of photos of a designer’s collection. Anyways, I was chosen to shoot lookbook for the designer. Here comes the problem. The shoot had a call time of 9 am this morning. I could not miss one of the classes I have that day, as we have a paper due soon. I had to tell them that I couldn’t do it. It is nice to know that I have some interest though… But I did have a test shoot with Michael Thomas ( www.mthomasphoto.net) and the pictures are above. I hope you like!

As many of you may know, I AM OBSESSED WITH DJ TIESTO, saw him last year in NYC and best night ever… I just discovered this song and I am definitely feelin’ it!

Diet-

As I mentioned in the last blog, I ate a bit too much on NYE. But hopefully I can fix that with the help of recording everything, or most of it, I eat on here… I decided that on 1/2/2010 I am going to do a 48 hour detox to cleanse my body and during the two days only eat fruits and veggies. Its a great way to rid your body of toxins, shed a few pounds and start from scratch. For me anyways, it tends to help the frequent cravings I get for sweet or processed foods.

1/1/2010

Lowfat vanilla yogurt with frozen blueberries

Honey Oat nature valley bar

*** I am not ano, but legit am still full form everything I ate last night, including the 3 slices of pizza I ate after midnight- starting off the new year right!

Protein Shake (water based)- about an hour after my workout

Dinner- small- a bit of turkey, mashed potatoes, peas, corn, stuffing- sounds like a lot, but didnt have much of any

then my weakness… I had some bomb apple pie and a mini scoop of vanilla ice cream

slice of pizza at like 330am— reoccurring trend?

1/2/2010

Hot chocolate and blueberries

Protein shake

small fry from chick-fil-a

Frozen pink lemonade, some peanut m&ms and like 4 twizzlers

vanilla yogurt and blueberries, peanut butter granola bar

egg whites scrambled with two pieces toast

1/3/2010

*”*I started my 48 detox diet today… so nothing but this juice stuff from GNC and fruits and veggies for two days… wish me luck!!

Workouts

1/1/2010

Today was a light workout. I seemed to not have much energy, probably because I haven’t eaten much today. I only did a 15 minute warm up run then a circuit workout and some ab exercises.

1/2/2010

60 minutes on stair master and ab exercises was my plan but I get to the gym at 730 and then I hear announcement… Gym will be closing in 30 minutes… really? So I only did 25 minutes of cardio… its ok though cause I’m a bit burnt out

The Happenings

So this summer, I am going to live in Manhattan. Hopefully I can sign with an agency, hopefully DNA, and book some jobs. But regardless, I saved enough money to live from May through August in the city. Not gonna lie, its gonna be sick so if you are able to, come visit and stay with me. I have already been searching for places to live. It has been an interesting process to say the least.

The other night, I was emailing so many people, via craigslist ads, about apartments. I got a reply back from one particular lady who I did not remember emailing but saw that she was offering an apartment for 650 a month, utilities included and furnished. the pictures she sent were beautiful. The apartment is in Greenwich Village, a high rise, doorman, gym= perfect. But too perfect?

So I explained to the woman that I was extremely interested, but could not move in until May and that the apartment was probably going to be no longer available by then. But I guess I made an impression on her and her husband (who I talked to on the phone and clarified their motives. They were relocated to the UK for at least 8 years, but recently bought the apartment and did not want to sell it. They were not concerned about money but just wanted someone to look after the apartment. Sounds good to me! But again… too perfect?

So I was talking to my aunt Blaire, who has experience in all this stuff and she thought it was fishy, so she began trying to find information on these people. Meanwhile, I told them that in order to ensure I could have the apartment, that I would look after it from Jan- to May, meaning I would go twice a month and care for it and what not and not pay rent until I actually moved in. They agreed. So they asked for money to cover the costs of sending the keys and other information (access codes and lease information). While this all sounds good, it was small things that made me nervous. For instance, I am only 19, and most people would not just give a 19 year old an apartment that normal rent is about 6ooo a month. Also they would avoid certain questions such as the unit number and their business’s name. While they did send a copy of the man’s Driver’s license, registered to NJ… there were some articles about a older couple, near the name age, who were charged with fraud and embezzlement… SKETCHY… at that point I decided this was too weird.

But good news is, found another apartment in Gramercy, cheap, nice, but same sort of situation. could possibly be to perfect. But if there is any lesson I learned from watching The City, and specifically Olivia, never sign for the first apartment you see… So the fraud one was the first, right? So this one in Gramercy, should work out… lets hope!

In other news, Friday night was interesting. My friend James ordered me to go out with him and some of his friends in town. I did. We went to Ybor city, and for all you Tampons, you are familiar with Ybor, non-Tampons, you are not. It is the main club, bar area but also known for sketchiness. We went to a place called Czar. First time going. very different than places I have every been. (Estate- Boston, The Gates, Hudson Terrace, Veranda, La Pomme, Tenjune, 1oak, etc- NYC) Very different scene but I thought it was fun-ny. So I decided to dance on the booth/ table and have a good time. Pictures were taken but they are not up yet so those will be posted soon…

You know you love me… xoxo… Ill stop

My first post… a bit long

Hey Upper East Siders…

No, too Gossip Girl-y

Once upon a time…

No, too fairy tale-y

Hey, my name is Taylor…

Cheesy and cliché, but it will do

First I would like to say Happy New Year… I didnt do anything crazy last night. Instead, I stayed home with family and family friends. We had pizza, chicken parm, and this bomb raspberry cake. So much for the whole eating healthy thing last night. Ill go to the gym and work out extra hard 🙂

So I decided to start this blog to chronicle my “journey,” before I tell you about that, let me tell you about me.

I am a sophomore at Boston University. I am 19, birthday is 9-11-90, yeah I know, crappy birthday. I am majoring in public relations, trying to minor in French (haha we will see about that). I was born in Rockford, Illinois, but spent most of my years in Tampa, Florida. I have worked for Abercrombie and Fitch for over two years now (you get used to the smell and the music- overall it’s a great company to work for). I played basketball and football in high school and ran cross country. I love theater, movies, and food (my only weakness). I have seen Harry Potter more times than ever necessary. I think I have an addiction to buying and watching movies. I also work at the BU fitness and recreational center (Fitrec) which is good because it gives me a reason to trek across campus to go to the gym. I am in the college of general studies (CGS) at BU. I am a CGS dean’s host. I love New York City, fashion, modeling, Gossip Girl (even though its going down), and Desperate Housewives. I get distracted easily and go off on tangents. Anything else that is relevant I am sure will come up, otherwise just ask.

So before moving to Boston, I decided I wanted to try and become a model. At the time I thought it was near impossible, because I used to be fat and it was never a thing that crossed my mind. I used to walk by an Abercrombie and wish that I could look like those guys, but never thought it was possible (still don’t, but working on it). Anyways, I had my cousin Lindsey take some pictures, then I sent said pictures to various agencies in NYC and Boston. I heard back from a few in Boston (Model Club, Dynasty, and some other I forgot the name off, but it was sketch when I met with them) and none in NYC. I ended up working with Model Club in Boston. I got good work with them (Puma, AJ Wright) but I just didn’t feel quite comfortable with them. I was at the Puma shoot one day, and started talking to my friend Nikki, who heard my thoughts on my current agency, and suggested I go see this agency, Maggie Inc. I took her advice and they liked me and I have been with them for about a year now. I have down work for Ruelala ( ruelala.com – let me know if you want an invite to join the site), AJ Wright and Rag and Bone. My picture was featured in a local Boston magazine, Stuff, for the event I did in Boston for Rag and Bone. Also I did the fashion spread for the newest BU publication, Buzz, which was pretty cool too. Also I was an extra for Sex and the City 2…

That is my status in Boston. I would like to do more, but its hard with school and what not. I really love the industry, even though it gets a bad rep sometimes and I think is often rightfully misunderstood. I want to do more with modeling.

After getting settled in Boston, I decided to go to NYC and just go to as many agencies as possible and see what happens. From what I remember…

Red Models- I walked in literally 4 minutes before they were “technically” open and the guy said “what do you want we are not open” I showed him my book and he said good look but we don’t want you. The story is a lot better when I can act it out, so ask if you want me to tell you in person.

I walked in to a women only agency

Most though, I just dropped pictures off and didn’t hear anything back.

New York Models however was the catch of the day. Sort of.

As I mentioned before, I heard back from New York Models (

newyorkmodels.com ), in NYC. I went and met with one of the agents who said that I have a good look but they weren’t really taking on anyone new with the economy and the struggle for jobs with their existing models, but to keep in touch.

The pictures above are from the set of Sex and the City 2 (taken from my cell phone and credit to Pedro A.) There are also photos from Abercrombie and Fitch in Boston, a shot from Ruelala, and a picture from my portfolio (CS Photography) 🙂

So after the long day, there was still some hope. They ended up sending me to a casting which was crazy but awesome. But after some time I decided to keep looking for agencies. Click models, I submit pictures online, they send email requesting more, I send, I don’t hear anything again. This past summer however I was talking to agency, which I submitted pictures through my Model mayhem profile, and set up a meeting. DNA models ( dnamodels.com ). They are premier in high fashion, which is what I want to ideally do, but I am more commercial, which pays more. I went in and met and they liked me, but said since I didn’t live there and went to school in Boston, they would wait until I could live in NYC full time. I have tried to stay in contact since but since the industry is always changing, I am constantly submitting photos to agencies. I really want to move full time, but I also do not want to sacrifice my education…

I also work at Epic Hollister in SOHO in Manhattan. I was a greeter there, but they told me to bulk up and come back to submit pictures to get approved. I go to NYC once or twice a month and am able to work there, a perk for working for the Abercrombie and Fitch company. I made pretty good money. I am going to live in the city this summer and see what I can do with  modeling, and hopefully, when I get “approved” work for the store and make some money.

So here is where you all come in. My plan for this blog is update you on my whole modeling thing on anything that is or isn’t happening. Post my workouts and eating regiments for the week. And just talk about my life in general. I want to also post my digitals (just simple pictures that I submit to agencies) to keep track of my look and body. I am doing this for support and motivation. My plan is to go big and I tend to not stop something until I have finished it. I will comment on fashion, celeb gossip and world news.

My goal is to have a successful career in the modeling industry. I want to walk in shows domestic and abroad, and make some money to pay off student loans. The blog is called “Blazing to Street and Avenue” because I want to blaze a trail for myself and others. I think that models have become cookie cutter, and there is a lapse in minority models. I want to change that. I also want to change how male modeling is viewed and it would be nice to see a less difference in how much men and women are paid. Also, it’s annoying how more and more celebrities are taking over the models job. You see more and more celebs, less and less models on covers of magazines. Street and avenue (like 34th and 5th) refers to NYC, my current favorite city, and fashion capital. Also special shout out to Kayvon, Claudia, Kelly, and Charlotte for helping me with the title of the blog 🙂

Also, this wont always be this long. This time only because a lot to cover on the first day.

My new years resolution is to be better in all aspects of life, but concentrating on handling money better. However, I can’t take the credit for my resolution. Jenn S. –> Thank you!

What did you do for NYE? What is your resolution?

Feel free to post comments, criticisms, questions, anyting weally ( 😉 )…
